Flock to sevigny studios PDX

APRIL 3RD - APRIL 30TH

The Crows are partnering with Sevigny Studios PDX for a one month showcase! Collective members brought their ideas forward for a vote, and "Ancient Artifacts" came out on top! These are just a handful of concepts our members kept in mind as they worked on their pieces...

Items civilizations left behind on our planet or another. What if modern toys are ancient artifacts to our descendants, and they perceive them how we view ancient Egyptian tools or ruins. A more personal approach could be, pieces of our past that have impacted who we are today. The growth that we have endured makes that time feel ancient upon reflection. Or even previous land formations prior to tectonic shifts creating the landscapes we know today.

The Saqqaran Device

Artist Statement:
Saqqara, contains the tombs of Egyptian royalty and high officials. It is also has a significant number of mummified animals, potentially containing the largest collections in Egypt. Estimates suggest that up to 70 million animal mummies were created across various sites in Egypt, with Saqqara being a key location due to its catacombs dedicated to animal burials.

During a recent 2023 excavation near Saqqara, a beautiful cat mummy was unearthed. It was well preserved and very intact. But more importantly, discovered right next to this, and of the same timeline, was a strange device. And made of advanced metals and composites, to a degree of precision and fabrication not to be seen for another1500 years. Comparisons have been made to the Antikythera mechanism found off the coast of Greece and thought to be an advanced nautical navigation computer. Also, a relic out of time. The nature of this Saqqaran Device is not yet known. More restoration and research into it is needed.

Otherworldly Interruption

Artist statement:

An interruption from another world, a rainbow producing meteor blasts through the atmosphere. What could it carry? A very telling piece from the past?

An object that will change the future? Shall I ignore it, or shall I seek after it? I’m not sure that I want to know.

Artist Statement:

As the pigs of Pig Island guide you through their land, you suddenly come upon an anicent stone carving, possibly depicting their one-eyed, one-horned God, who seemingly holds the world in balance whilst floating in space. You should feel blessings upon you in this moment, however you can't stop wondering, "How big is the beaver that felled the tree in front of the sacred stone? Can I ride it and/or watch it wash it's tummy? That would be magical..."

Relics of Fire

Kaitlin Weber - Relics of Fire_edited.jpg

Artist Statement:

This tableau serves as a memento mori, exploring themes of impermanence and restoration. At its center is a piece of painted stained glass salvaged from a 1920s panel that was destroyed in our studio fire in 2025. While these shards represent recent history, they serve as relics of a challenging period of reconstruction. Though the fire occurred only a year ago, it already feels like ancient history.

Ancient Greek bone forceps

Leah Yao - Miniature replica of an Ancient Greek bone forceps.jpg

Artist Statement:

Leah Yao (b.1997) is a designer and miniaturist intrigued by objects and environments that catalyze meaningful connections, often through a sustainable lens. She grew up sloshing around in the Oregon mud and crafting wands from soggy branches which forged her passion for things and spaces. Working with clients ranging from private art collectors to the Cartoon Network, her work has been featured in publications including New York Magazine and Hi-Fructose. She graduated from RISD in 2019 with a BFA in Industrial Design and now finds herself at LAIKA Studios building models, collaborating on sustainable initiatives, and supporting safe studio practices.

Artist Statement:

In Mesopotamian and Jewish lore, Lilith was Adam's first wife, created from the same clay as his equal. She was banished from the Garden of Eden for refusing to be subservient to Adam. Choosing exile over submission, Lilith grew wings and flew to the Red Sea, where she coupled with the archangel Samael. While traditional theology brands her a dangerous, sexually unrestrained demon who preys on the innocent, this "monstrous" reputation was largely a tool to keep women in line. Her story shows that society often turns a woman into a "demon" because she chooses freedom over a beautiful cage. ancient history.

"The power of the Prop."  In cinema, props are often more than just stuff filling the background of a scene. In some cases they can define a time in pop culture history. For the last twenty years, I have focused on making miniatures of some of TV and film's most iconic props for collectors around the world.
